1.) I am currently a bartend manager at a restaurant. My skills are customer service, sales, and management. My dreams are to be successful and one day work for myself and provide others with great opportunity as well. This business would play a role in my life because of my current job. I have a soft spot for service industry employees because how we're perceived. I believe I have been very successful in managing my money, while having this job and being on my own. It would be nice to give back.
2.) I would be offering a service that could calculate a minimum pay, which the customers could budget off of. It would show people what they are able to afford and if they're in need of a second job to be comfortable or possibly more shifts.
3.) My customers would be mostly employees who work in the service industry. This could also work for hourly and salary employees as well.
4.) Some people don't know or understand how to budget. In this day and age, not all parents explain this to their kids. The people who aren't good at budgeting need help and this would be a good solution for them which wouldn't cost much money.
5.) I would have to say my core competencies are my experience. I have been in this industry for 6 years and have learned first hand without any help.
After piecing together these elements, I have realized that they to fit together. Who I am and what I want to provide to others, fits pretty well. Although this app would probably only provide a small income, I think it would still be successful.
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great concept here, especially since you're helping people with such a serious and stressful issue like budgeting. Your experience in the service industry is a great asset to have to give you credibility if you ever pitch this idea, and I'm sure it also drives you to succeed in this venture because you've been in that situation and had to learn how to budget on your own, and you don't want others to have to face that because it's a tricky skill that not everyone can master as well as you seem to have done. However I don't think this only applies to service industry employees. I could definitely imagine plenty of retail workers or maybe even just people who have a certain amount of money to live off of for a period of time using this to help budget accordingly. I'm curious about what your segment would be for this, because it would be a great help for high school/college students, but could also apply to those in the service industry in general, like you said. Overall great job!
Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI love the concept that you have came up with. Budgeting is something that almost all Americans suffer from at one point in their life, and i'd even go as far as saying that at least half of them never learn to budget their money. I feel that you are someone that many people would listen to since you have also struggled in the past, and now have hypothetically came up with a solution. I feel that you have a really great idea. Good job!

ReplyDeleteHello Melanie,
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea because I myself am in a situation where budgeting is not the thing I'm best at. It's something that takes practices and priority to do. I however do believe that it's something attainable and I like how you make it a relatable problem to us. I think you did a great job, and this application is something I would definitely use as a solution to this problem. Keep up the great work!
Hi Melanie,
ReplyDeleteYour idea is great. I feel that everyone deserves a fair chance especially when it comes to spending money. It will enhance the customer's self-esteem because they would be able to keep up with those around them. Unfortunately we live in a time where either keeping up with the latest trends or starting your own is a big deal. Both of these require you to have a bit of change in your pocket. With your idea, they will be able to do just that.
Hi Melanie,
ReplyDeleteBudgeting is definitely one of the most important things that people need to know in order to obtain and maintain a successful lifestyle. It's one of those subjects that we should be required to learn in school when we're younger, but unfortunately since that's not the case, there is a need for these types of tools to help manage one's budget.
